1001bit tools in different languages!

1001bit language pack

Postby GohCH » Fri May 01, 2009 2:09 am

Hi everyone,
1001bit tools is now possible for different languages! :D
A new language pack function is added into version 1.1.5 (and later versions), which allows for automatic translation of the dialog boxes, status bar, tooltips and error messages into your local languages.

Here's how it works
In version 1.1.5, there's an additional language folder inside the 1001bit folder.

inside the language folder, there's a collection of text files (.txt) which contains the language translation.

The format of the translation is
id>>english>>translation
Just use a text editor to edit the .txt file and save it.
You may need to try saving the file in different format, for example, the Chinese version has to be saved in UTF-8 format for it to work properly on a Mac (English).

The first full translation into Chinese Simplified language has been completed and tested by purplewind of club.sketchupbar.com

Special thanks to Purplewind for sharing his hardwork!

by the way, the 1001bit_tools.rbs file in the Plugins folder needs to be replaced with the latest. Otherwise you'll see a lot of errors!

(eval):13:in `load': undefined method `read_1001bit_language_file' for main:Object

But seems little errors of programing?
Also problem of text length!

hi Pilou,
Thanks so much for your efforts!

1) Tooltip text: Seems like there is a maximum of 79 characters in the tooltip. I couldn't get it to do more, and couldn't get it to do multi lines of text.
Has anyone come across a tooltip with multi lines of text?

2) The Escalator title: tracked down the problem. It's that little Apostrophe (')
title>>Create Escalator>>Création d 'Escalator
when Javascript sees a apostrophe('), it interprets as the beginning of another string and caused an error.
The translator defaults back to English when there's an error getting the translation.
Adding a back slash in front of it will get it to be interpreted correctly.

hi everyone,
Some notes on the translation:

1) Tooltip text:
Seems like there is a maximum of 79 characters in the tooltip. I couldn't get it to do more, and couldn't get it to do multi lines of text.
Has anyone come across a tooltip with multi lines of text?

2) Using Apostrophe ('):
Following translation generates an error because of the apostrophe('):
title>>Create Escalator>>Création d 'Escalator

when Javascript sees a apostrophe('), it interprets as the beginning of another string and caused an error.
The translator defaults back to English when there's an error getting the translation.
Adding a back slash in front of it will get it to be interpreted correctly.

little problems ;)
So maybe you must not write text on the image, only simple letters?
Or each translator must modify a little your image?

And for the size of window we must resize it by hand ;)

So maybe for the tooltip, you must "separate" a little legend, a special text, a resume for the icons?

you're right Pilou,
Didn't plan for a language pack last time. I should remove the text on the images.
on size of dialog box, maybe i should add another line in the translation file that allow the translator to control the size.
i'll work something out.
Looks like a v1.1.6 is due very soon

hi Pilou,
I think we have to live with shorter text for the tooltips for the icons ;)
Max. 79 characters.
seems like no way to increase this or to break up into multiple lines. :(

Just looked into the images.... removing the texts on the images.... really quite a lot of work there
We'll leave that for future updates, shall we... ;)
