Section cut Slices that are easy to select

Postby Paulji » Fri Apr 02, 2010 1:17 am

I've found that I use the Section tool to Create Group from Slice particularly on angled surfaces. I then delete the Section Cut and use the Intersect by Selection, then explode the Slice group.
This is particularly useful when creating roofs with double slopes such as gambrel roofs. I'd like to be able to select the grouped slice by a single click. This doesn't happen in SU. What
happens is .....the edge is selected instead of the grouped slice just created. This to me is more of a bug than a feature in SU but perhaps it could be "fixed"?
Perhaps there might be a way to "toggle" through entities that are stacked on top of each other...maybe even let you know what type of entity is being toggled?

Rotate Section Cut 90-degrees

Postby Paulji » Sat Apr 03, 2010 6:38 am

It would be helpful if there were a tool that would rotate a Section Cut 90-degrees about any axis. Getting the correct section cut alignment sometimes relies on other existing objects. It seems that it would be easier to "flip" the orientation of a Section cut than to
manipulate one's view to get an orientation that was "normal" to an existing object. I'd be interested in hearing what others think.

hi Paulji,
are you looking at
1) pick a point
2) enter an angle for section cut?

2 things about section cuts that i'd like to do are
1) section cuts are visual, i.e. we cannot pick specifically on the cut (like we do for an end point) and dimension it at the point we cut.
2) section views shows hollow at the cut, which needs quits some cleaning up if you want to export this for construction drawings.
i'm planning on working on a simple tool that close up the hollows with faces, maybe painted red.

the tough part is to work out the logic of which face to remove and which to leave intact.... :ugeek:

TIGs script has some solution for correct removing "unwanted" faces. It resambles me island detection mode when hatching in cad.

Great.
I have written some my ideas here: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtop ... 54#p261256

It's probably naive ... or nonsense ... I have no programming skills at all ... :)

Cheers
