rafter and purlin tool

Postby joaquim » Sat Feb 19, 2011 2:03 pm

hi Goh

hope you are well.

I am bussy with a project, where I am designing a thatched roof and could not help noticing that the rafter and purlin tool does not cater for round gumpole rafters and purlins.
so I thought that I might just make the suggestion of perhaps adding a script to the current version.

kind regards
Quim

hi Goh

I had all this typed up and then tried to add an attachment and it all disappeared, the attachment did not upload.
so here goes once again with a JPEG instead of a PDF attachment of a SU model that i have just finished.

we generally use gum poles in the construction of grass thatched roof houses and Lapa's ( outside BBQ and entertainment Gazebo's )

the battens/purlins range from 38 to 50mm in diameter, rafter between 100 and 150mm in diameter, bearers and supports between 150 and 200mm in diameter.

construction method is similar the the conventional roofs. for lapa's the rafters rest on bearers and supports. house roofs rest on wall plates similar to the conventional method.
the structure is bolted together with M16 bolts and smaller structures can be nailed

8-) hope these pic's help. Enjoy !!!

hi joaquim,
Thanks. circular rafters is not difficult. The tough part is sorting out the intersections. (i can probably do something that does not sort intersection between the members...)
can't promise the timing though. I'll keep this in mind.
cheers!

Hi Goh

thanks for your reply.
if you can add round (diameter ) Rafters, Battens and Purlins to the current Roof Rafter and Battens/Purlins tool it will be great!
everything else will work the same.

buy the way since I updated windows 7 with Service Pack 1, I have found that the select functions on the tools appear to be blank.
maybe just my PC. please let me know.

thanks

hi Quim,
Thanks for the suggestions. I don't have any issue with SU on Windows 7.
Don't know whether anybody else have same issue?
