extrude along path

Postby jim_tim » Thu Feb 11, 2010 11:31 pm

Hi i'm getting some trouble with the extrude along path tool.... i tried to follow your tutorial where the ramp follows a curved incline then you add the rail. The problem i got is that i dont seem to have control of what axis the extruded face follows the line in. some times its perpendicular to where i want and not on the right edge.

it seems that i need to draw the geometry along the green axis... it worked fine then.... however occasionally it will not draw a ramp but a very strange object in a random place in the model

hi jim_tim,
can you take a screenshot of the problem?

the extrude along sloping path works as follows:

as for orientation, green direction(y axis) is upwards, red direction(x axis) is on the right.
draw the profile flat on the ground (x,y plane) will be the simplest. :D

GohCH, thanks for your reply..... i worked out the problem. i hadnt drawn the template on the green/red axis so when i applied it to the curved line, the angles were all skew. The reason fo the odd geometry was because the template was sometimes on top of other faces and i think i was accidentally selecting the incorrect face.

Cheers for the help :D
